Safety Perceptions on the VUB Main Campus in Etterbeek
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) invites you to participate in a unique study as part of the Moment project. This study focuses specifically on the safety perceptions of students, staff, and visitors on the VUB Main Campus in Etterbeek. This campus, the heart of our university, offers not only education but also various facilities, such as student housing, a restaurant, and sports infrastructure.
With Moment, we aim to explore how safety is experienced in different areas on campus, both during the day and at night. By sharing your experiences and perceptions, you contribute valuable insights that help us make the campus a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.

How does it work?
Participating in the Moment study is very simple. With the Moment app, developed by VUB researchers, you can record your safety perceptions in just a few seconds, exactly where and when it matters. Receive helpful prompts while on campus, or scan one of the QR codes placed around the campus to immediately share your experience.

How is your privacy protected?
At Moment, your privacy is a top priority. The data you share, such as your safety perceptions and location, are processed completely anonymously. This means your identity is never linked to the information you provide.
- Anonymous data processing: All information collected through the app is anonymized and cannot be traced back to individual participants
- Voluntary participation: Participation is entirely voluntary. You decide when to share data, either through the app or by scanning QR codes
- GDPR-compliant: Moment fully complies with European and Belgian privacy regulations, ensuring your data is handled securely
- No permanent tracking: Your location is only recorded when you choose to submit an experience or scan a QR code
Prefer not to share your location? No problem! You can still participate by scanning QR codes placed across the campus. This way, you can contribute without sharing your location.
With Moment, you remain in control of your data, and we ensure your privacy is protected while you help make the VUB Main Campus a safer place.
